The Higher Technical Institutes (ITS) represent the first and most important Italian experience of tertiary vocational education. Established in 2010, the ITS are activated in six technological areas “strategic” for the economic development and competitiveness of the country.

In Piedmont, there are seven active ITS:

• Information and communication technologies (Torino)
• Tourism and cultural activities (Torino)
• Development of eco-sustainable energy systems (Torino)
• Biotechnology and New Life Sciences (Torino)
• Agri-food for Piedmont (Cuneo)
• Fashion, textile, clothing system (Biella).
